Transit Visa Procedures

If you are traveling to a third country through the Netherlands, you need to apply for a Netherlands transit visa. The transit visa is intended to allow a foreign citizen to remain in the Netherlands for a limited period of time. On the following page, you will find the necessary documents for airport transit visas, which will be applied by those who will pass through the Netherlands airports.

Netherlands Airport Transit Visa

Airport transit visa is the citizens of the following countries are required to apply for an airport transit visa if they are transferring from the Netherlands during their journey to a third country. An airport transit visa is required at Schengen airport to enter the transit zone. The airport transit visa doesn't permit the holder to leave the transit zone and move in the Netherlands. Citizens of the following countries are required to obtain a transit visa for the airport.

Citizens of Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Congo (Democratic Republic), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Syria are subject to the airport transit visa procedure for the Netherlands.

The Netherlands Schengen and transit visa applications don't have regional distinction. Applicants can submit their passports by applying to the visa application center of their choice.

The Netherlands transit visa isn't in the Schengen visa category. It is a type A visa. The airport doesn't grant transit holders the right to free movement in the Netherlands and other Schengen areas. The Schengen visa is issued for a maximum of 90 days, while those with a stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days must apply for a D visa.

Passport

Your passport shouldn't be more than 10 years and should valid for 3 months after the planned return date with 2 blank visa pages must be submitted.

Third Country Visa (the applicant going to travel)

If a visa is required for the third country you will be visiting during your trip, the visa for that country must also be provided.

Travel purposes documents for Country

Documents supporting the purpose of travel, if no visa is required for the country of destination; invitations, hotel reservations, title deeds and so on. and documents showing your financial situation (bank statement, bank passbook, title deed, additional income documents, etc.).

Netherlands Visa Application Form

The visa application form must be submitted by the applicant in personal, complete and carefully filled. If the transit visa applicant is under the age of 18, both parents or legal guardians must have their signature on the visa application form.
 

Biometric photo

One photo which is face visible, white background, 35x45 mm criteria, freshly taken, no more than 6 months old biometric photographs should be submitted.

Consent Certificate

If the applicants under the age of 18 aren't traveling with their parents, both parents must receive an approved, notarized consent. A copy of the identity card of the parents must be attached to the consent.

Travel health insurance

A travel health insurance covering 30,000 euros, covering the entire duration of the travel, covering emergency and hospital expenses, must be submitted. The insurance must be valid in the Schengen area. In case of your request, we make your travel health insurance without any additional service fee in your visa application.

Flight reservations

Transportation reservations including the applicant's entire travel plan must be submitted.

Previous passport's photocopies

If the current passport contains a copy of the identification information page, a copy of all processed pages of the previously issued passports and the pages of the entry and exit seals must be submitted.

The Netherlands Embassy and the General Consulate of the Netherlands may request additional documents if it necessary. The complete submission of visa application documents doesn't guarantee that the application will be approved. The authority to evaluate and finalize visa applications is the sole responsibility of the Netherlands Embassy and the General Consulate of the Netherlands.
